Cr-48, A love story

Last December, Google sent me their CR-48 netbook to test out and help improve. Well I can proudly say that I stuck with their Chrome operating system for 6 solid months, but the more I used it the more I realized it's limitations. Their "nothing but net" philosophy that inspires this computer just wasn't for me, I had to have application support and a decent file manager. I had to have... Windows!

It was a long complicated road, installing Windows 7 on this thing, but now that it is I've never been happier with this laptop. What I don't understand is why Google gave this laptop such nice hardware but gimped the operating system. You can still do a lot with just a 16 gigabyte hardrive.

But who am I to doubt Google's infinite wisdom?

  2. I just signed up for the pilot program and they accepted me. :) The testing phase is nearly over though and they aren't sending out any more laptops. Sorry guys!

  3. So true, that's the reason why I'm always going to be a Windows user.

  4. Yes, I did! Really nice of Google actually, but I've told and shown so many people this thing that they'll probably make their money back.

  5. web apps need work to equal desktop apps but the possibility is there!

  6. It has 2 GB of RAM, which I find is plenty to run Windows 7 and anything else I need. But even if I exceed the RAM limit, since this thing has a solid state drive, it's pagefile should read and write very quickly so that shouldn't even be a problem. In theory.

  7. I really need to get a netbook for college, Ill keep this one in mind.

  8. Mehh... I never go above 1.7 GB for RAM and that's with a lot of windows open and email and programs and stuff. 2 GB is fine!

  9. nice read, i think that chrome operating system is created for people who dont care what is inside their computer, they are just internet users, kind of a sad thing imo

A Sign of Things to Come (!?!?)

I've been a little inactive here lately and for that I apologize, but I hope this can make up for it! My first ever youtube video and hopefully the first of many. Someday I want to look back on this and say "Wow! That looks awful!"
